The lost colony is a concept that I put together yesterday for The House of Kibaa and this world will eventually be able to be explored in VR in the near future. I also want to give a huge shoutout to Beam's Studio for providing a bunch of awesome free assets that can be found on ArtStation's marketplace.
I created the entire scene inside of Blender with the use of displacement maps I was able to make this Mars like mountainous environment and placed Beam Studio's props in specific locations to give the illusion that the shot is from a very far distance. The hardest part on this project was getting the scale of the objects all correctly based on the distance from the camera.
I used an HDRI for the overall sunlight in the scene and placed area lights ranging in intensity, in specific spots around the scene to add more evident highlights in places that were needed. I also rendered out the scene with the HDRI invisible, making the background of scene transparent. This made it very easy in post-production to place a nice background behind the mountains and give it that Geonosis sky from Star Wars.
All post-production was done inside of Photoshop and using various concept art brushes, I was able to brush in all of the highlights, shadows and different color tones to bring life to this scene. The sound for video can be found on: bensound.com.
Enjoy!
