Explore my latest cinematic trailer Cosmic Curse created with Unreal Engine 5! For this horror sci-fi themed project, I used the Polar Sci-Fi Facility environment crafted by 3DBrushwork, available on the Unreal Engine Marketplace. My aim was to transform the environment with brand new lighting to create a completely new atmosphere—cool, dark, and eerie—to evoke a sense of emptiness and the impression of a long-abandoned facility taken over by an alien species.
My primary goal was to showcase my lighting skills in Unreal Engine 5 and delve deeper into camera animation to breathe more life into the trailer. By utilizing very high focal lengths and getting creative with camera movements, I achieved a more cinematic feel and dynamic scene composition.
The main character in the trailer is the recognizable Maynard from Mixamo, chosen to add life to the story as an undead, alien-like enemy fitting perfectly into the crafted world. I integrated five different Mixamo animations in strategic ways throughout the trailer. Despite not being an animator, I found workarounds by piecing separate animations together in the Unreal Engine sequencer, ensuring smooth transitions between clips.
All audio and sound effects were sourced royalty-free, with separate tracks combined to create unique effects like monster breathing and electricity zapping. Final edits, including color correction, were completed in After Effects. Check out the trailer to see how these elements come together to create a chilling, immersive experience!
