Life Crystals
Life Crystals

This is a game prop that I created for my final capstone for college. I've never attempted to make a crystal or anything of the sort, but myself and six other individuals are designing a sci fi super hero based game and these crystals will be one of the many props seen in the final game. We expect to hopefully port our final game over to Unreal Engine Five once finished. I can't wait to see what these and other props will look like in the final build of the game!
The crystals were made inside of Blender with the use of booleans and carving away shapes out of a basic cube to give it a crystal like shape. The materials were pretty straight forward in which I used a specular material to give it the glassy like appearance and applied a roughness and normal map to give it the grungy look that it has. I finally then applied a gradient to the reflection of the material and made it fade from dark to light.
The lighting and rendering was achieved with Octane. I used a two point light setup in which I had a big area light above the crystals with a blue tint as my key light, I then added a smaller circle light in front of the crystals with a red tint to add some contrast between the lights. All post-production was achieved in Photoshop with the use of render passes.
Enjoy!
